The aim of this paper s to introduce and situate the reader within the debate on Colligatory Terms, while also identifying latent issues of interest to history and philosophy that emerge from this topic. To achieve this, it presents a selection of the contributions on colligation and colligatory terms in the philosophy of history, while also critically examining these contributions. The discussion begins with a brief introduction, followed by an exploration of William Whewell's (1847) notion of colligation - the philosopher who first introduced it - and extends to Jouni-Matti Kuukkanen (2015), who recently addressed the topic in historiography. Finally, the concluding remarks offer a suggested delimitation for colligatory terms.
